Both medical abortion and surgical abortion have risks to consider before making up your mind. The potential risks, according to the Mayo Clinic of medical abortion include:

- An ongoing pregnancy if the procedure doesn’t work
- Heavy and prolonged bleeding
- Infection
- Fever
While every surgical abortion is similar, they also share similar complications, including:
- Perforation of the uterus
- Damage to the cervix
- Scar tissue on the uterine wall

Do I Need an Ultrasound?
If you receive positive pregnancy testing results with us, an ultrasound is necessary to understand your pregnancy details and determine your pregnancy options.
An ultrasound is a much-needed step in the pregnancy confirmation process. An ultrasound is needed to know where your pregnancy stands and confirm three details of your pregnancy, including:
- Viability of the pregnancy (whether your pregnancy has a heartbeat & is progressing)
- Location of the pregnancy (if the pregnancy is located inside of the uterus or not)
- Know how far along you are (known as gestational age)
An ultrasound can alert you to possible complications such as miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. These complications will require other medical treatment and disqualify you from all pregnancy options.
